Technology & Training Fund Application
The ACBVA Technology and Training Fund provides financial assistance to blind and low-vision Virginians for adaptive technology, technology training, and specialized technical support. Funding is generally capped at $1,000 per individual: up to $500 for technology and up to $500 for training or technical support. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis when significant need and sufficient justification are demonstrated.
Before You Apply
- Applicants must be Virginia residents.
- Applicants must be blind or have low vision.
- Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
- Applicants should show efforts to obtain funding from other available sources when appropriate.
Documentation Requirements
Applicants must provide verification of vision status and Virginia residency. Verification may be provided by a medical professional, DBVI counselor, other qualified service provider, supplemental residency documentation, or direct verification from a qualified professional.

Applicants may request assistive technology, technology training, technical support, or a combination of these services.
Terms and Conditions
Warranties and Liability
ACBVA provides financial assistance only and does not warrant or guarantee any hardware, software, training, or services. Any disputes must be resolved directly with the manufacturer, vendor, trainer, or service provider.
Software Maintenance Agreements
Applicants are responsible for future subscription renewals, software maintenance agreements, warranties, and service plans after the initial ACBVA-funded coverage period.
Supplementing Grant Funds
Applicants may contribute personal funds when the total cost exceeds the maximum amount available through the fund.
Selecting a Trainer or Technician
Applicants may select a trainer or technician from the ACBVA approved database. Individuals not already approved by ACBVA must complete the trainer review process before services can begin.
Mode of Service Delivery
Training and technical support will generally be provided remotely unless extenuating circumstances require another delivery method.
Quality of Service and Dispute Resolution
Applicants are responsible for communicating concerns directly with trainers and must notify ACBVA promptly if significant issues arise.
