General and Recurring Meetings and Events
There are many ways to connect and engage with your friends in ACBVA. Announcements of these and other events are publicized on our email distribution list, so please go to the Joining ACBVA Distribution List for easy-to-follow instructions to sign up for the list. Our organizational events include:
Annual Convention
Annual state or regional convention, including ACBVA’s annual meeting, where members steer the direction of the organization. This meeting generally takes place in the fall and has been conducted virtually in recent years.
Monthly Program Meetings
Our members meet via Zoom on the second Monday of most months from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. eastern time. Each month, we invite a speaker to share information on important topics of interest to our members, including audible pedestrian signals, transportation options, resources for blind and visually impaired students, services available in Virginia to assist the blind and visually impaired residents, options for staying fit and healthy, and how to effectively advocate in order to fully reach one’s full potential
Board Meetings
ACBVA holds open Board meetings to conduct business. Currently, we are meeting monthly on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. Eastern time.
Book Club
ACBVA hosts a book club that generally meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. eastern time. This has been a great way for us to remain connected with each other, even during the pandemic.
Fiber Arts Club
Whether you love crocheting, knitting, loom knitting, weaving, sewing, or any other fiber art, we welcome you to be a part of our vibrant community. We meet via Zoom on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
Social Gatherings
Participating in social activities is a great way for members to take advantage of opportunities within various communities and connect with each other. ACBVA encourages you to advertise and participate in events which may include: local attractions, attending audio-described performances, picnics, holiday parties, and fundraising events.
Virtual Meetup
Whether you’re newly experiencing vision loss or have been part of the community for years, we welcome you to join us for an insightful and friendly conversation. Bring your stories, your questions, and an open heart! We can’t wait to meet you and build a stronger, connected community together! Usually held on the 2nd Tuesday at 3 pm.
Community Events
ACBVA also participates in a number of events in our local communities to educate the general public and identify those that could benefit from the services and resources that we provide. ACBVA members attend events such as White Cane Day events, walks/runs, and meetings with Virginia’s Senators and Representatives to discuss issues of concern to blind and visually impaired Virginians.
