ACBVA’s meeting on April 8, 2024, focused on our advocacy efforts. The meeting featured Delegate Patrick Hope who gave us some pointers about advocating with our Virginia state delegates and how to arrange a day in Richmond during the next legislative session.
His talk also included discussion of 2 pieces of legislation he introduced in the recent Virginia General Assembly session – HB516 – Prescription drugs; labels provided for blind and disabled users and HB 796, Absentee voting; electronic ballot return. The bill on prescription drug labels has become law in the state of Virginia. We discussed how we might better advocate for the bill on electronic ballot returns which will hopefully be reintroduced during the next legislative session. Delegate Hope was very supportive of our agenda and working with us more closely in the future.
Bonnie O’Day from the Virginia chapter of the National Federation of the Blind attended our meeting and graciously invited us to work with their state chapter on next year’s legislative agenda at the state level.
