April 2023 Meeting Information and Recording

The meeting held on April 10 focused on parent and professional perspectives on accessibility in education. The presenters were Rebecca Bridges, who home-schools her two young children, and Dr.  Kim Avila, who works at George Mason University and has two older children with visual impairments.

Parents and professionals provide a critical role in ensuring students and families can equitably access education content and materials.  However, limitations exist that impact students with visual impairments, families, and parents who are blind/low vision. This session provided an overview of the presenters’ roles as parents with blindness/visual impairment in accessing educational content and accessibility of materials for students with blindness/visual impairment.
